Ladies Golf

Welcome from the Lady Captain Kay Vickers

Since joining Doncaster Golf Club, I have been impressed how the Club’s staff and Members work tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of our Club. Plenty of time, effort and thought goes into making the Club a fantastic place to play golf, discover new friends, and enjoy the vibrant social life. With this in mind, I look forward to working alongside Club Captain Ian and Junior Captain Ellie in 2020.

The Ladies’ Section runs competitions each week, including those at Local, District, County and National level. In addition, our lady’s teams - Scratch, A, B and Friendly, enjoy many competitive matches against other local clubs. With social roll ups and mixed competitions there is plenty of golf on offer for every ability of golfer. For ladies new to golf, we hold ‘Taster Sessions’, which is how I started six years ago!

My charity this year is the Sick Children’s Trust, which offers accommodation for parents and families of very poorly children in hospital. I am looking forward to raising money for the charity and having fun in the process. I thank the Ladies’ Section in advance for their help with this.
I am so very proud of Doncaster Golf Club, it is an honour and privilege to serve as Lady Captain. I am thrilled to represent the Ladies’ and the Club and to be working with my Lady Vice Captain Karen and the new Ladies’ Committee.

May I extend a huge welcome to our visitors, I’m sure you will enjoy your golf at Doncaster. I also look forward very much to meeting and playing golf with the Members over this forthcoming year.

Burns Lunch

Sunday 26th January

Members enjoyed a fabulous Burns Lunch at the Club on Sunday 26th January.
As is tradition the Captain addressed the lasses, to which Lady Captain gave her response a copy of which is listed below:

If tha can keep tha ball when all about are losing theirs and blaming it on thee.

If yoo can wait and not be tired of waiting, and risk yer winnings on a turn of Pitch and Putt,

Then lose, and start again, and never worry you di’n’t make the cut.

If yoo could refrain from standing on’t first tee,

On Wednesdays, at eleven o’clock, chuntering and thinking we lasses are slow,

It is our time, and we do pay us fees you know.

If when we let you through, then yoo lose yer ball in’t rough,

If tha could swallow yer pride and let us past agen,

We would forget all about your duff.

You Gents are generous to a fault.
If you keep them raffles going, the squares behind the bar, the car park space, them Charity Days,

You are ‘elping lots of folk in many different ways.

If you could take a turn at ‘alfway ‘ouse,

Pouring tea and serving cake,

If tha could go bit further,

And do a little bake, then you’d never ‘ear us lasses grouse.

If yoo could venture into t’Ladies’ coffee morning,

And not be afraid,

If yer could buy a bit o’ this or bit o’ that, and end up all spent,

If you can do all this, then no doubt about it,

Yoo are a true Doncaster Golf Club Gent !

A fantastic rendition of 'The Address to the Haggis was also given by Ian Chitty.

All in all an excellent day was enjoyed.

2019 Charity Cheque handover to St John's Hospice

Past Captains Allan Beaumont & Carole O'Neill along with Ladies Committee members met with Lindsey Richards a representative from St Johns Hospice, Doncaster to pass over a cheque for £2566.65 being half of the amount which was raised by kind members in 2019.

St John's Hospice was Carole's chosen charity in memory of her late husband Patrick. Patrick was a keen golfer and former member of the club and had used the care of the hospice.

Allan had chosen Parkinson's UK as his charity and they have received the same amount.

Thank you everyone for your donations and continuing to make a difference for these charities.
A busy few days following the AGMs, welcome to our new Ladies’ Committee.
